Summary Final Post

My entrepreneurial idea has evolved from being just a little idea to a complex business product that uses many different parts of technology to earn a high profit and have an efficient business. At first my idea started with my personal issues of having a lack of sleep and lack of food throughout normal college day. With the truckloads of work the professors assign and tight schedule I am on I found it hard to find to grab a meal. So I thought that a type of water with the specific ingredients that could provide your hunger and energize you could be extremely helpful throughout the day.

After I came up with this idea I realized there are many different parts of technology that i wasn't even aware about until I took IST195 that could enhance my product indirectly making production and innovation. The lessons on spreadsheets and software, hardware and digital video, input, bits and bytes, and computer forensics and operating systems all taught me ways to develop my product. They not only helped me on the design and development side but also on the business side of my product.

This overall experience with technology and business has expanded my mindset which is benefiting me because I now have more knowledge about business related technology aspects then I used too. For example, I never had an idea what RFID card was and how it can be used to track shipments. The more I learned about technology the more I was able to expand my ideas for my Food/Sleeping water.

Week 7-Networks

As we learned in class, there is more than just one operating system for computers. Microsoft uses the Windows operating system, while Apple uses OS. They are often updated, just as with changes from Windows XP to the current Windows 7 or from the OS X Snow Leopard to the upcoming OS X Lion.

Operating systems have a model for preference, such as the empire of apple on college campus's such as Syracuse. The prevalence of Apple is very obvious as most students have Macbooks (OS), whereas this puts Windows in the shade because not many students use windows. Even though technology will always be evolving at a rapid paste, technology will always have a preference and personalization towards what they prefer.

Operating systems are important to functionality of any business such as Food and Sleep Water. It is important that the software is both reliable and efficient, which will help increase companies profits and revenues. I think Windows is the best operating system for a business type environment and will help maintain my office and regulate my product efficiently.

Week 6-Bits and Bytes/Storage

A way that I can enhance my Food and Sleep Water and advertise it would be to create a song. As cheezy as this sounds there are numerous commercials which use music and mp3's to advertise there product. For example I-O digital cable and free credit report.com. An mp3 would allow me to encode a catchy song into the consumers head so they remember my product name. Although I don't have a written song, thinking about the idea gets me excited and think it will be productive towards my company campaign.

My computer will not need to have a large data storage since my product is made through machines. A normal laptop of 300 GB will do just fine for my business, and all its storage for documents and information. Another idea how I can enhance my Food and Sleep Water would be to go along with the mp3 song for the commercial, show how my product scientifically cures your hunger and sleepiness.  This would be a key tool for my advertising of the product.

To increase free storage space, I learned  that there is an easy way to replace wav files with mp3 files.  The latter is the compressed version of wav files. Human hearing is limited to 20hz to 20khz, therefore, mp3 files discards what we cannot hear and therefore decrease the size of the file. This will benefit the business as it helps us save storage space and become more cost efficient in computer storage.

Week 5- Input/Output

A way i can enhance my company and advertise is it by using QR codes. QR codes are everywhere these days because of the growing popularity of smart phones. They are free to make and would be a good way to advertise my product. I could put sales in the QR codes, which would make people actually scan the QR code, and in return it will help my sales.

Another aspect of technology that will help protect my special Water that will help cure your sleeping and eating problems, is an RFID tag. Having RFID tags within my factory will allow me to keep track of stock and inventory. By staying ontop of inventory this will make my company more efficient by have Food and Sleep Water made nonstop at a constant flow of output.

Another aspect of RFID would be to track all my companies product throughout the world. Having shipping trucks drive all around the U.S. and globally, can be confusing and disorganized. With RFID trackers in all the truck will allow my company to track the Waters across the world, which will lead to a more successful and organized business.

Week 4- Hardware Components and Computer Forensics

Running my new business is going to be stressful and data storage is going to be essential in keeping things organized and running smoothly. I am considering what kind of work will be done on the computer and the required free space it needs to be able to operate. By examining the types of data storage, this will make it easier for me to choose the right kind of storage.

While one page MS documnet only requires 30Kb, a laptop with 1Tb of data holds up to 1000hours of video or store 250000songs. My product is made through machines, however I am going to need computers to keep tabs of my input of outpt of supplies, therefore I do not see the need to get a large data storage because it does not involve videos and other large files. I will need a RAM of 2GB or 8GB to operate my business because that will cover creating websites, spreadsheet programs, digital imaging, etc.  For the Sleeping and Food Water  business to operate, I think a normal size of 300GB computer will be enough to store documents and information.

Since everything is stored pretty much on your hard drive. I will make sure my business takes every precaution to avoid identity theft. As well to take precautions to protect my consumers who buy from my company. I will have a SSD instead of a HDD because they are faster and more efficent and will give my company an edge. It will also increase my free storage space and this will benefit the business as it helps us save storage space and become more cost efficient in computer storage.
